News and Updates

| In Pre-Prod: | I just started a Blog for updates on work and random thoughts. I'm still updating this page regularly but I post more frequently on the blog. It's here: Notes Shooting my first short Feb 4th. It's a fun project to keep me busy during the slow winter season. Been shooting a lot with my JVCHD7 . I like it for the weight and ease of shooting. Picture is really clear but the files are a pain to transcode. |
| In Prod: | The script for Find: Replace: is done and I'm awaiting decisions regarding financing. Hopefully someone will find it worthy of production. I put up a temporary one sheet as a teaser site. Eventually I'll build an actual website for it. |
| In Post & Screening: | Sneakers & Soul is at the rough cut stage. I will hopefully have footage very soon up on my site. Drawing With Chalk is done. The film has been submitted to festivals and we're just waiting for responses. Meanwhile, the director Todd Giglio cut together a trailer that kicks ass. It's here. Bagged and Boarded is undergoing a fine cut at the moment. Anika is a short film that is seeking completion funds. I'll have a trailer posted soon. A Soft Place is offically done and out on the festival circuit. Info on screenings will be posted soon. Wrapped on It's Me Matthew. There's talk of a potential feature version in the works. You can check out a short I did a while ago with the PS Technic adaptor and the HVX200. The director has recently uploaded an online version here: The Wine Bar Also wrapped up two commercials recently. You can check them out here; Region 9 |
| Thoughts: | I'm looking at the new RED options that will be available this year. I may save up for the 5K scarlet Epic. Currently my GVD7 is proving amazing with the Letus adaptor and the 24P conversion looks great. I'm shooting 2 shorts with it. Drawing With Chalk is now in the final stages of editing and it will soon make the rounds. I'm very excited to see how it's recieved. I'm thrilled with what we accomplished. It's a good film and I really think people will be touched by it. If you're a first time filmmaker with no industry experience at all and you've read some books telling you that you can find a DP, actors, set technicians and equipment all free of charge, my first piece of advice would be to throw away those books. They are most likely written by failed filmmakers turned professors. Pick up this one from a truly successful film producer: Shoot To Kill from Christine Vachon. The first question people ask me upon reaching out is what my rate is. Very few people take the time to look through my site and read this page or my contact/rate page or the blog. My rate varies depending on how long the shoot is, how much equipment you are renting from me and how large and/or organized the production is. I made a rate sheet on my contact page to give the newcomers out there some ballpark industry figures and let them know what the going rates are for DP's, crew rates and for the type of equipment I'm offering. But it's not a definite "rate". I need to know specifics of your production to provide that. If I like the script, I'll usually find a way to do it.
